Our new re-cotton yarn balls, made from 80% recycled cotton, are perfect for creating beautiful amigurumi! In this blog we will show you how you can make these cute lion and giraffe plushies. Follow the instructions bellow and our photo gallery to create these cute animals!

GIRAFFE (Hight 21cm):

Materials:

LION (Hight 17 cm) 

Materials:

crochet 300195-182 2,5mm, crochet 300175-841 1,75mm (crochet used for inserting the re-cotton in the mane base). Marcapunti 300611-868, scissors, needle, thread to sew the eyes, tweezers art. 9450-031, 108080-01 “Multi Pin Loom”, pins e brush.

Instructions:

HEAD AND BODY:
Round 1: magic ring with 6 single crochet (6). It is advised to mark the beginning of each round with a pin.
Round 2:  6 raises (12).
Round 3: 1 single crochet and 1 raise (18).
Round 4: 2 single crochet and 1 raise (24).
Round 5: 3 single crochet and 1 raise (30).
Round 6: 4 single crochet and 1 raise (36).
Round 7: 5 single crochet and 1 raise (42).
Round 8-10: 1 single crochet in every stitch of the previous round (42). (Sew the wooden eyes between the rounds 11 and 12 with distance of 5 stitches between them.)
Round 11: 13 single crochet and 1 decrease (39).
Round 12-13: 1 single crochet in every stitch of the previous round (39).
Round 14: 12 single crochet and 1 decrease (36).
Round 15: 1 single crochet in every stitch of the previous round (36).
Round 16: 4 single crochet and 1 decrease (30).
Round 17: 3 single crochet and 1 decrease (24).

Fill the head with soft silicone padding.

Close the work with slip stitch. Leave a long enough thread to sew the nostrils using 2 wooden spheres to the head. With the black re-cotton make the nose of the giraffe.

HORNS:
Re-cotton 108077-09 brown.
Round 1: magic ring with 6 single crochets (6).

Round 3-4: 1 single crochet in every stitch of the previous round (12).
Re-cotton 108077-17 yellow.
Round 5: 1 single crochet and 1 decrease 4 times (8).

Fill with padding.

EARS:
Round 1: magic ring with 6 single crochet (6).
Round 2:  1 single crochet and 1 raise for 3 times (9).
Round 3:  1 single crochet and 1 raise for 3 times (12).
Round 4-7: 1 single crochet in every stitch (12).
Close the work with slip stitch. Leave a long enough thread to sew the ears to the head. Fold the two flaps and fix with the needle. Do not fill them.

TAIL:
Round 1: make 10 chains.
Round 2: make 9 single stitches in the following chains. From the brown re-cotton cut 3 threads of 7cm and fold them in half. With crochet needle n. 1,75 enter the end of the tail, grab the yarn and pull it out. In turn, grab the two remaining threads and fasten them by making a chain. Repeat with the other two threads, comb and cut.

  • Fill the horns and sew them to the head
  • Sew the ears to the head
  • Fill the muzzle, sew it to the head and fix the nostrils
  • Sew the legs, hands and tail to the body

Sew the stains to the body.

BASE FOR THE MANE:
The base for the mane is a kind of hood to be sewn to the lion’s head. It will facilitate the making of the mane avoiding the leakage of wadding when inserting the threads with the crochet hook.

Round 3: 1 single crochet and 1 raise (18).

Leave a long enough thread to sew the muzzle to the head. With the black re-cotton make the nose of the lion.

To make the mane we will use the Multi Pin Loom frame. Take from the brown re-cotton many threads of 7 cm. Fold them double and with the crochet needle no. 1,75, enter the edge of the base mane, grab the yarn and pull it out. In turn, grab the two remaining threads and fasten them by making a chain. Repeat with the other threads working in a spiral. Comb and cut at the same height.
